Donate Now to End Violence Against Women
1 in 3 women will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime. In some countries, this statistic represents as much as 70% of the female population.
Violence against women and girls is both a cause and effect of poverty. When we help women and girls escape violence, we unleash their potential to create a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities. Our programs place special emphasis on maternal and child health, disease prevention, psychological support and care, education, economic growth and community development.
CARE places special focus on working alongside poor women because, equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Last year, CARE supported more than 800 poverty-fighting projects in 72 countries to reach more than 59 million people. Ninety-one percent of CARE's expenditures go to programs empowering women and families in poor communities.Learn more about CARE's work.
