Libya Flood Emergency Fund: Catastrophic flooding - the death toll reaching many thousands
Devastating floods have impacted northern Libya, washing away houses and roads and taking people with them. The port city of Darna in the northeast of the country is particularly affected, where more than 30,000 people have become homeless.
Reema Lazar, program manager of CARE Libya, reports: “The whole country is in shock. With water levels of up to ten meters, the entire area around the city of Darna in the east was completely destroyed, and the communications and power networks were paralyzed.”
CARE is one of the few aid organizations in country and is preparing emergency relief measures in collaboration with local partner organizations.
