CARE Package Cash for Refugees: A New Partnership to Warmly Welcome Afghan Refugees to Atlanta
As CARE is responding to the crisis in Afghanistan, we are also committed to supporting the Afghan families that are being resettled in the US. When the needs are this great, strong partnerships are essential. We are proud to be partnering with New American Pathways, another Atlanta-based organization and local leader in refugee resettlement, to welcome 300 Afghan families who are arriving right now to rebuild their lives in our metro Atlanta communities and neighborhoods.
Working together, CARE Package Cash for Refugees will provide a short-term influx of critical cash assistance on special VISA cards to Afghan refugee families that are working New American Pathways to navigate the challenges of relocating to Georgia. In-hand cash allows refugee families the dignity of choice to purchase what their families most urgently need.
CARE has a long history of providing cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian crises, and we are committed to ensuring cash transfers have meaningful impact for entire households, particularly for women and girls. Because of its reputation and expertise in refugee resettlement, New American Pathways is already receiving in-kind donations and smaller-denomination gift cards but welcomes a partnership with CARE to tap into our robust systems, advantageous national relationship with financial institutions and impact monitoring and evaluation.
In the coming weeks metro Atlanta will become the new home of hundreds of Afghan families. They have had a hard road to get here and many are arriving with only what they could carry. On average, $1,000 supports one family, but any amount you donate will go toward making our new Afghan neighbors feel welcomed while getting them the urgent things they need like food, clothing, and medicine.
