When drought devastated her small community in Somaliland, 43-year-old Muna and her children faced a heartbreaking reality. “I didn’t know how I could feed them,” Muna says. “I had to keep them at home to help me find something to eat. Sometimes they had to shine shoes in the streets to make enough to afford food.”
Failed harvests. Empty water tanks and wells. Livelihoods crumbling. This is the reality for mothers and families experiencing drought and extreme heat around the world.
But CARE is always there. CARE’s school meals project came to Muna’s children’s school. Before the program, the schools were not able to provide meals to the pupils. Now, instead of seeing children go hungry in the classroom, teachers are watching them grow stronger, and dream of their futures — something they hadn’t been able to do before.
Today, you can help CARE provide lifesaving aid when families like Muna’s need it the most.
