Manju’s story is not unique — millions of women in Bihar, India find themselves in labor, bleeding and in peril, with little access to health services or ambulances. Despite the dire circumstances, Manju’s daughter was born without any complications. But not all are so lucky.

U.S. investments in global health, largely funded by foreign assistance, are crucial to ending preventable child and maternal deaths, stopping the spread and frequency of disease, and strengthening health systems within the country to provide quality health care to every community.
