When we launched our World Hunger Campaign earlier this month, 13 million people were facing a severe food crisis in the Sahel region of Africa. Now, the number of people at risk has risen to nearly 16 million and nearly 3 million children face malnutrition.
The world cannot ignore the signs any longer — we all must take immediate action to help those who are already suffering and prevent millions more from facing the same fate. Please make a tax-deductible gift now to support CARE's work on the ground in the Sahel and other poor regions of the world.
Your support is needed urgently to help CARE keep up with the demand for our emergency response and poverty-fighting programs around the world.
In the Sahel, we are helping people with food, emergency nutrition, medical care, water, improved sanitation and more. We are paying special attention to the needs of women and children as they often are the most vulnerable during times of crisis. For example, we're helping mothers receive proper nutrition so they're healthy during pregnancy and childbirth and when they're breastfeeding. A vital component in building healthy, prosperous societies is making sure newborns have the best start possible.
Many dedicated CARE supporters have stepped up to help us address this crisis and our work to fight global poverty. But we need everyone to respond. Every 60 seconds, 17 children die of malnutrition and disease related to hunger around the world. Can you help today?
Your special gift can help CARE respond to this crisis and support long-term, resilience-building efforts, such as:
- Funding cash-for-work programs to help families buy food
- Training nurses to identify early signs of malnutrition so children can get help before they suffer lasting effects
- Improving water access, helping with sanitation efforts and promoting good hygiene
- Working with women's savings and loans groups to plant community vegetable gardens and stock grain to help families get through lean times
If action is taken now, we can help save lives and prevent more families from living life on the edge of survival. Please give as much as you can today and help us bring hope to millions facing extreme poverty, hunger and disease in the Sahel and all over the world.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent situation.
Sincerely,

Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH
President and CEO, CARE
