Your help is urgently needed.
With 2011 behind us, charitable giving to CARE has dropped dramatically, but the need to help families overcome poverty continues. In fact, we have a $458,932 goal we must meet by March 30!
Demand for CARE's help has been intensifying in recent months, due to extreme flooding in some parts of the world and the severe drought and food shortages that are devastating places such as the Horn of Africa.
CARE remains committed to the hungry and vulnerable people who are counting on our help — and your support.
Your tax-deductible gift can help us be prepared and quickly respond to the unpredictable disasters and ongoing struggles that put poor families and their children at risk. Here are some examples of CARE's efforts currently underway:
- To date, our famine relief efforts in the Horn of Africa have reached more than 1.7 million of the nearly 10 million people facing hunger. But heavy rains are causing outbreaks of malaria and dengue fever and poor road conditions that make it even more challenging to deliver aid to those who need it most.
- Torrential rains in El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras at the end of 2011 prompted CARE to respond with clean water and sanitation support as well as food and agricultural aid to those affected by the disaster.
- Massive flooding displaced millions of people and destroyed essential crops of rice in Southeast Asia. CARE is delivering emergency supplies and making disease prevention a priority due to mosquito populations that are thriving in stagnant flood waters.
Emergencies like these demand our immediate response and compassion, but we need your help!
Can we count on you to make a tax-deductible gift of $25, $50, or whatever you can afford today to help ensure that our lifesaving and vital programs are fully funded?
Thank you for your support during this critical time. Millions of lives are hanging in the balance, and we rely on your generosity to ensure a brighter future for all.
Sincerely,
Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH
President and CEO, CARE
