HELP CARE EDUCATE GIRLS AROUND THE WORLD!

CARE Helps Educate Girls Around the World

Just $49 can help send a girl to school for a year!

Thank you for making a difference!

In some parts of the world, getting an education comes at a painful price: persecution and, in some cases, retaliation. In 2008 alone, CARE documented nearly 700 education–related attacks that largely occurred at girls' schools, and included violent acts such as murder and arson. Recently, insurgents attacked an Afghan girls' school with poison gas, sending 59 girls and 14 teachers to the hospital.

This attack, and other events like it, are a big part of the reason that 87 percent of Afghan women can't read or write. On a global scale, 60 percent of the world's 72 million out–of–school youth are girls. CARE can help send a girl to school for a year, for only $49! Please donate to support CARE's education and poverty–fighting programs around the world.

CARE needs your help now to ensure that girls in Afghanistan and other countries around the world get access to basic education. For girls, school is more than just learning about history and math. It gives them the tools and skills they need to open doors to a world of opportunities.

CARE can help send a girl to school for an entire year for only $49. Please donate to support CARE's education and poverty–fighting programs around the world.

The story of Anisa, a young woman from a very poor family, helps illustrate the power of educating girls. Anisa only achieved a third grade education before the Taliban closed all of the girls' schools in her village. After the Taliban fell, many of Anisa's friends returned to school, but her brothers wouldn't allow Anisa to join them. She was heartbroken, but too scared to disobey them.

Anisa's life began to improve when she joined a CARE counseling program. She learned more about gender equality and her self-confidence began to soar. Still, she longed to return to school. With the group's support, she convinced her brothers that education was beneficial for both boys and girls — and they permitted her to return to the classroom!

Anisa's wish is for more girls like her to have the chance to participate in CARE's poverty-fighting programs.

Make a tax-deductible donation to CARE today, and you can help Anisa's wish come true in Afghanistan and other countries around the world.

When you help a girl like Anisa, you help her whole community thrive. Educated girls get married older. They have fewer and healthier children. They are more likely to participate in the workforce and have greater control over their financial resources.

"I am very happy and satisfied about these positive changes that have come to my life," says Anisa, who is now in the 11th grade. "I am thankful for CARE's counseling group for their kind guidance."

When you give to CARE, you can be proud in knowing you are helping to empower girls and women in the fight against poverty.
