An art exhibit celebrating
the International Day of the Girl
Date: Friday, October 11, 2013 Time: 7:00 PM - 10:30 PM Address: Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery 199 Armour Drive, NE Atlanta, GA 30324
Art is a universal language. Yet many girls around the world have never explored their creative talents. They live in poverty and many are from remote villages where their family’s economic situation compels them to withdraw from school to work or marry at an early age.
CARE asked girls from Georgia, Ghana, Honduras, India and Madagascar to help us tell their stories, using their own hands. We visited communities where we work, carrying suitcases packed with drawing paper, watercolor paints, colored pencils and pastels. The girls jumped at the opportunity. For many of them, it was their first time ever creating art. Through this activity – through their own art – the girls unlocked their imaginations. Some of the images show everyday lives that are very different from our own, but there is a common thread: a child's eye for simple beauty, boundless hope and an appreciation for a world full of wonder.
On their behalf, CARE is proud to present a selection of these works of art at the CARE: Through the Eyes of a Girl art exhibit at Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery, opening Friday, October 11 at 7:00 pm.
In celebration of the second annual International Day of the Girl, we will unveil and celebrate this unique art collection while enjoying international cuisine and the music of Willie Ziavino and C.O.T Band.
